The Broward Sheriff's Office identified the taxi driver who was killed in a crash at Federal Highway and Sheridan Street about 3:30 a.m. Monday.
The pickup truck hit the Friendly Checker taxi, sending both into a Shell gas station, police said.
The taxi driver, 53-year-old Frantz Joseph, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died. The two passengers in the taxi -- Jessica Johnson, 20, and Jesse Johnson, 22, -- were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in serious condition.
Two people inside the pickup truck -- Sheena Rogers, 28, and Emmanuel Bruce, 37, -- were also transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in serious condition.
"If you just look at the images of this accident, you can tell that they were all very lucky to be alive this morning," said BSO spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion.
The intersection was closed for about three and a half hours as deputies investigated.
