OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – Surveillance images have been released from a Broward County bank that apparently show a teenager fraudulently withdrawing cash.
The incident happened Dec. 8 at a Chase branch at 5055 N. Dixie Highway in Oakland Park.
Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Dani Moschella said the teen used some type of card to withdrawal $1,000 from an account that only had 63 cents in it.
"It's unclear exactly how that happened," Moschella said.
In one photo, an older man is seen peering over the shoulder of the teen. The individual is believed to be an accomplice.
"We don't know their relationship," Moschella said. "We don't know if the younger man is a victim, if he was forced to do this or if they were in it together."
Detectives are hoping the public can help put a name to the faces to determine what happened.
The account belongs to a woman who was not in the bank that day. The crime went unnoticed for several weeks until the victim checked her bank statement, and contacted the bank and law enforcement.
Investigators believe as many as four people were in on the plot after scouring surveillance footage from the bank.
"We are cooperating with authorities on this case," Chase said in a statement. "The transaction proceeded because there were funds to support the withdrawal at (the) moment in time it occurred."
