Teen accused of leading police on cross-county chase to remain in juvenile detention

Alan Moss, 15, accused of stealing Tahoe, leading police on nearly hour-long chase

MIAMI – A 15-year-old Miami Gardens boy accused of leading authorities on a cross-county chase in a stolen Chevrolet Tahoe will remain in juvenile detention, a judge ordered Wednesday.

Alan Moss was appointed a public defender at the Miami-Dade County Children's Courthouse, where the lawyer waived his client's appearance and sought to have his charges reduced or dropped.

The nearly hour-long chase began Tuesday after a white 2013 Tahoe was reported stolen from the 11900 block of Southwest 185th Street.

Miami-Dade police said officers spotted the stolen vehicle near Goulds Park and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver kept going. He was later identified as Alan Moss.

Police pursued the Tahoe onto Florida's Turnpike. Sky 10 followed the pursuit as the SUV was traveling north on the Palmetto Expressway, exiting on Northwest 175th Street in Miami Gardens.

During the chase, the Tahoe was weaving in and out of traffic and struck a red car on the Palmetto Expressway.

The Tahoe sped through Miami Gardens, running through several stop lights. It crossed into Broward County and turned east onto Hallandale Beach Boulevard, passing by Local 10 and barreling toward Interstate 95 in Pembroke Park.

Next, the Tahoe entered the southbound lanes of I-95, traveling north briefly, and then turned back south into Miami-Dade County. It exited on Ives Dairy Road and then got back on northbound I-95 into Broward County.

Then the Tahoe got off on Griffin Road and turned back south on I-95, once again getting off on Hallandale Beach Boulevard and heading west.

The Tahoe returned to Miami Gardens, speeding through several neighborhoods. The back left tire eventually blew out, but that didn't stop the driver, who continued west on Northwest 183rd Street.

Police eventually boxed in the Tahoe at Northwest 183rd Street and Northwest 39th Court, where a swarm of officers converged on the vehicle with their guns drawn. The driver was handcuffed and taken into custody.

Moss faces several charges, including grand theft auto, fleeing and eluding, aggravated assault and driving without a valid license.

His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 12.
