Teen walking to school struck by pickup truck in Pembroke Pines

Boy, 15, taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in critical condition

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A teenager was struck by a pickup truck Tuesday morning in Pembroke Pines.

The crash occurred at Taft Street and 104th Avenue about 8:15 a.m.

Police said the 15-year-old boy, identified as Keon Hylton, was walking to school when he attempted to cross Taft Street and was struck by the front bumper of a Dodge pickup truck.

The teen was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, where he was listed in critical condition. The driver of the truck, Yamile Roman, 51, remained at the scene.

Neighbors told Local 10 News that similar accidents have happened at the location in the past, and said many people speed on that road.

Police said Hylton was not at a crosswalk at the time of the crash.

No charges have been filed against the driver.
