A 13-year-old girl who was shot in the leg outside her Miami Gardens home is speaking out.
The shooting happened in the 20400 block of Northwest 2nd Court in Miami Gardens at about 8:50 p.m. Monday, behind Nevilisha Francis' home.
"When it was coming, it shot through here and then through the back of my feet," said Francis.
The only bullet in a hail of gunfire that struck Frances pierced her leg.
Some would say that's luck. Her father, who asked not to be identified, said -- that's God.
"I think God saved us," he said. "She's just a beautiful being."
By all accounts, officials said at least 20 shots were fired Monday night.
"I just heard the glass break," said Francis.
Francis said she was inside just back from tennis practice when she found herself caught in the crossfire.
After being shot, Francis said she limped, bleeding out the front door, into the arms of her father, who put her in the family car.
"It just happened fast," Francis said.
More than a day after the shooting, there's still little information from Miami Gardens police about who was shooting, what they were after or where the gunmen are now.
"The police need to patrol much, much more," said Francis' father. "There's no police around."
"I wouldn't be angry. I'd forgive and forget," Francis said.
