Thieves seen on surveillance video at 3 Hialeah stores

Thousands of dollars worth of merchandise stolen

HIALEAH, Fla. – Four men were caught on camera carrying out three smash-and-grab burglaries across Hialeah over the weekend, hauling away thousands of dollars worth of cellphones and other electronic equipment from three stores.

A sledgehammer appears to be the destructive weapon in each case.

"It's insane," said Marcos River, the owner of one of the stores hit by the thieves. "We have an alarm, good camera system, but even with that, they came in the middle of the night."

Rivera puts his loss at roughly $20,000 in merchandise, in addition to the thousands of dollars he's out in damage.

"We've been here for five years and we've never had a problem, but we got a big problem now," Rivera said.

The thieves tried to hide their faces and appeared to be wearing gloves.

One man in an orange hood is seen on video struggling with the cash register before walking away.

Those at the businesses burglarized spent much of the weekend cleaning up and picking up the pieces. But they all said they're thankful the video systems were working. Each store owner hopes the images will quickly lead to arrests.
