FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā The Fourth of July in Fort Lauderdale had a little bit of everything and everyone had their reason for making the trip.
"Because it's a nice beach to swim and have fun and watch nice fireworks," one spectator said.
The big show the spectator is referring to brought out all kinds of people as well -- the Captain Americas, the kids at heart and the groups who've made this event a tradition worth keeping.
"It's our third Fourth of July together," another spectator said. "It's the best beach in the world. Honestly, it really is."
Thousands of people packed the beach and the strip as hundreds more watched from the water on boats with security nearby.
The folks Local 10 News spoke with said it was a night to be proud, to celebrate honor and sacrifice, and do it like only South Florida can.
