MIAMI – Monday morning, 360,000 kids, 23,000 teachers and 52,000 employees all across the county will be entering their schools.
Back to school can mean stress and jitters, even dread over the end of summer, but not for ninth-grader Flor Santana, who will be starting the new year here at the iPrep Academy.

"It won't be such a tragedy," said Santana. "I am a fan of school actually. I like school...I like the fact that there's this technology that you can use every day."
"We're excited. We're jittery," said magnet lead teacher Laura Hernandez. "It's like Christmas morning waiting for the big reveal. We're waiting to see their faces.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho welcomed new parents and students as well as teachers back to the non-traditional, technology-focused school Sunday night.
iPrep, opening its doors for its fifth year, was under construction over the summer expanding its learning facilities. But Carvalho said that's just the tip of the iceberg.
"This is sort of the model for the transformation we're seeing across Miami-Dade -- a tremendous expansion in terms of new programs, 52 new magnet programs and choice programs will open in Miami-Dade tomorrow," said Carvalho. "This is true innovation. It's really exciting."
The superintendent's reminder to parents and students is safety first.
"Kids will be out on the streets, walking to schools, they'll be boarding buses. Please be careful," said Carvalho.
