MIAMI – A Jackson Memorial Hospital nurse is worried for her safety after arriving to work Tuesday morning to find a beige SUV up on blocks and missing all four wheels.
"I can't believe I'm coming into work, and this is what I have to worry about as well. Not just coming into work to take care of people and try to save lives and care for others," the nurse told Local 10 News.
The woman, who did not want to be identified, said she is concerned about an ongoing security issue she claims is going on at the hospital.
"I'm very upset about this. This is not the first time that it's happened," she said.
"(I feel) unsafe and scared, because I've had my car stolen out of here before, too," a surgical technician told Local 10 News.
The surgical tech also wanted to remain anonymous and said it is only a matter of time before the thieves strike again. He said his car was stolen three years ago.
"I think we need more security -- better security," he said.
The parking garage is run by Miami Parking Authority, but security and patrols are handled by the hospital.
A sign at the garage entrance warns all users, employees and visitors that the facility waives liability, and the car owners assume all risk.
"We're supposed to have campus security, and I've never seen campus security roam through the garage," the nurse said.
Both employees said another vehicle was spotted on bricks in the garage in September.
"Our security personnel and Miami-Dade police frequently patrol our parking garages, as well as the rest of our campuses," Jackson Health System spokeswoman Jennifer Piedra said. "We are working closely with Miami-Dade police on this case and hope that an arrest can be made soon."
