Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said AshannaĀ Petit-Jean, 23, was driving northbound on Rock Island Road in a white Hyundai Accent when she made a left turn on Tam Oshanter Boulevard and drove into the path of a white Chevrolet Lumina traveling south on Rock Island Road.
The Lumina, driven by Nichoy Young, 27, struck the passenger side of Petit-Jean's car. The impact sent both cars spinning out of control.
Petit-Jean's 4-year-old daughter, Suri Petit-Jean, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
The LuminaĀ struck a utility box and a concrete barrier wall before coming to a rest. The Accent collided with a black Nissan Sentra that was stopped at the intersection.
Petit-Jean was taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Young was also taken to a hospital as a precaution. The driver of the Sentra wasn't hurt.
Concepcion said traffic homicide detectives don't believe speed or alcohol was a factor in the crash.
