Tractor-trailer overturns on southbound I-95 in Hollywood

Section of SB I-95 fully reopens hours after crash

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A section of Interstate 95 in Hollywood that had multiple lanes closed early Tuesday afternoon because of a crash involving a tractor-trailer fully reopened Tuesday night.

The crash happened at 1:44 p.m. Tuesday between the Sheridan Street and Hollywood Boulevard exits.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 27-year-old driver of a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero, Fritz Donatien, swerved to avoid debris and struck the right side of the tractor-trailer.

The 46-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer, Walter Simon, swerved to the left and veered back to the right. Troopers said the tractor-trailer overturned across the southbound lanes and struck the concrete barrier on the west shoulder.

Sky 10 was above the scene as the crash brought traffic to a standstill. A tow truck was seen moving a disabled SUV to the side of the highway. All but one southbound lane was closed to traffic.

Traffic was backed up all the way past the Interstate 595 interchange. All lanes reopened about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky said the contents of the truck were leaking, requiring the Broward Sheriff's Office hazardous materials team.

Local 10 News reporter Andrew Perez said the truck was carrying several barrels of Xylene and Benzyl alcohol.

Simon was taken to a hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Donatien was cited for failure to drive in designated lane and improper equipment/bald tires.
