Trains delayed after debris catches fire on Hialeah train tracks

Fire extinguished, authorities say

HIALEAH, Fla. – Trains were delayed Friday after grass and debris caught fire on train tracks in Hialeah, authorities said.

The fire was reported behind a tire store at 3801 NW 36th St.

Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll Jr. said "numerous tires and debris were on fire, causing smoke to pour onto the 112 Expressway, causing traffic delays."

Hialeah Fire Department officials said the fire on and around the tracks has been extinguished, but the railroad company has been called to hold all trains until the area is determined to be secure.

No injures were reported.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Hialeah Fire Department.
