Travelers head home as holiday season comes to close

Online check-in helps some travelers avoid lines

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ A busy airports is a telltale sign that yet another holiday season has come to an end.Ā 

At Miami International Airport there were some delayed flights on Monday, but for the most part the boards looked good.

"Weather was amazing it was a really good trip," Jackie Sweeney said, after heading back to London.

She said online check-in helped her avoid long-lines at the airport.

"I've got a connecting flight in Orlando so I'm just hoping it gets there on time," Sweeney said.

Another holiday traveler, Joey Liburd, was flying direct to St. Croix.

He showed up a littler early, just in case.

At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, there were some hiccups in the morning with long check-in lines.

Ā There werenā€™t any glitches reported, it was just heavy holiday traffic, according to airport officials.

It is estimated that more than 1.5 million people passed through Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport during the holiday season.

And of those, 100,000 traveled in the airport on Monday alone.
