Truck plows through traffic to escape gunman; Shooter dead

Victim plows through at least 6 vehicles in effort to escape gunfire

KENDALL, Fla. – Miami-Dade police say a domestic dispute that spilled over into rush-hour traffic Tuesday took a deadly turn, putting several other drivers in danger as well.

Police said a woman was racing down Southwest 136th Street along Tamiami Airport just before 5 p.m. while her ex-husband chased her in another vehicle after some sort of argument.

When the two hit traffic at busy Southwest 137th Avenue, the ex-husband got out of his truck and fired multiple shots into the victim's vehicle, police said.

"She then, of course, trying to avoid the shots, accelerates (and) tries to move out of the way," Miami-Dade police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said.

The victim plowed through at least six vehicles in an effort to escape the gunfire. Police said she struck a light pole shortly afterward, and her ex-husband got back into his truck and fatally shot himself.

Several witnesses and passerbys were shaken up by the commotion.

Police said the woman was miraculously not struck or harmed during the incident, although her truck was hit. The other drivers in the way also made it out without any injuries.

The incident backed up traffic for miles in an already busy area.

Police said they are still investigating and are waiting to release the suspect's identity.
