Girl dies after being found in pool; Brother remains in critical condition

Twins escaped apartment, entered pool through open gate, police say

SUNRISE, Fla. – One of two children who were found in a community swimming pool in Sunrise last week has died.

Jada Roman died Tuesday afternoon, Sunrise police Officer Michelle Eddy said.

She and her twin brother, Henry Roman, were found by their mother, Althea Bradford, floating in the pool at the Oasis apartments Thursday.

Bradford, who is the property manager, called 911 after finding the children, initially unaware they were hers.

The twins, who were almost 2 years old, were able to escape the apartment where they were being watched and enter the pool area through an open gate, Eddy said.

Eddy said the resident who was watching the twins went to the bathroom, left the door open and heard cartoons on the television in the next room.

At some point, one of the twins apparently manipulated the lock and left the apartment, Eddy said.

An undetermined time had passed before the resident noticed the children were not in the apartment, Eddy said.

Henry Roman remains in critical condition at Plantation General Hospital.

Police continue to investigate.
