Teenager killed in double shooting

Police: 16-year-old girl killed; 26-year-old man injured

MIAMI – A teenager died and a man was hurt in an early-morning shooting in Miami Tuesday.

According to Miami police, a 16-year-old girl and a 26-year-old man were hanging out near a van in the area of Northwest 34th Street and 14th Avenue when multiple shots were fired in their direction just after midnight Tuesday.

"I've been here for 33 years and I've never seen something like that," added a neighbor.

The girl died and the man, who has been identified as Pedro Nunez, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries to his face. He returned home Tuesday morning but offered no comment about the shooting.

The girl's identity hasn't been released.

"I'm over here thinking she was going to die right away, but she didn't die right away," said a witness who asked not to be identified. "My best friend -- the only one I have in this world just got shot and I don't even know why."

A dog was also shot in the leg and taken to Knowles Animal Hospital for treatment.
