2 women shot at Burger King drive-thru in Opa-locka

Police search for shooters

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – Two women were shot Tuesday morning while waiting in the drive-thru at a Burger King in Opa-locka.

Opa-locka police said the shooting took place at Northwest 138th Street and 27th Avenue.

Police said three women were approached by three gunmen while waiting at a drive-thru at a Burger King location.

"Three women were in a car at the Burger King in the drive-thru," interim City Manager David Chiverton said. "Three men walked up (and) started shooting. They tried to get out of the way, and that's where the car ended."

A perimeter was set up in the city as police search for the men involved in the shooting.

Two of the women, a mother and daughter, were hit by bullets and airlifted to a hospital, where one of the victims is in critical condition.

The other woman was treated by paramedics at the scene.

"It shows that nobody has no fear," Pastor Eric Readon said. "Nobody has no remorse and they need to be brought to justice."

One of the victims was identified by family members as Donesha Gantt, who posted a live stream on Facebook shorty after the shooting.

"If I die, God forgive me for all my sins," Gantt said in the video. "I got shot three times, but I'm gonna be good."

Gantt is heard telling first responders that she was shot in her arm.

She later expressed how thankful she is to be alive on her Facebook page.

"BLESSED. All I can say is blessed. 4 wounds and I'm blessed!!!!!!! Love you ma," the post read.

Gantt and her mother are listed in fair condition.

Nathan Young Elementary and Robert Ingram Elementary were briefly placed on lockdown after the shooting. Streets near the shooting scene were also closed off.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
