UM under alert after gun threats made near campus

Alleged gunman ran toward campus after road rage incident.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Police say what started out as a road rage incident Sunday led to one of the drivers getting out of his car and making threats that he had a gun. That led University of Miami police to put the university under alert.

Police say the road rage incident happened on U.S. 1 and Red Road.

When the man got out of his car claiming he had a gun, he ran toward the the direction of the University of Miami.

The suspect is described to have a ponytail, wearing a white t-shirt and is believed to be armed.

Police established a perimeter even though no gun was actually seen. They are instructing anyone in the 57th Avenue and Levante Avenue area to stay indoors and shelter-in-place.

Anyone who sees anyone in the area fitting the description above is urged to call 911 immediately.
