University of Miami student killed in car crash
University says Dino Ghilotti celebrated graduation on Friday
A memorial service will be held Monday for Dino Ghilotti, a University of Miami graduate who died after a two-car crash in Coral Gables on Sunday morning.
The university says the School of Business will hold a mass for the 21-year-old at St. Augustine Church in Coral Gables, directly across the street from the university. The mass begins at 5 p.m.
Coral Gables police said the crash happened around 4:30 a.m. Sunday on Bird Road at San Amaro Drive.
A statement released by the university said Ghilotti was a business major who was about to join his family's construction business.
"The entire university community is heartbroken to hear of the tragic traffic accident which resulted in the death of a UM student who just celebrated his graduation on Friday," said UM President Donna E. Shalala in the statement.
Police said Ghilotti was riding as a passenger in the car. Ghilotti's friends say his girlfriend, another University of Miami student, was driving.
The person driving the other car involved in the crash was transported to the hospital with an arm injury, said police.
Members of the Coral Gables Police Department's Traffic Homicide Unit will continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
