Officials say snorkeler had difficulty breathing when pulled aboard boat

MIAMI – The U.S. Coast Guard says its crew members medically evacuated a 54-year-old man in the Rock Reef area on Saturday.

Authorities said the remaining four people aboard the boat could not navigate the 44-foot boat and requested assistance from the Coast Guard.

After consulting with a flight surgeon, officials said the snorkeler was recommended for medical evacuation, and crew members from Station Islamorada were launched.

Once Coast Guard personnel arrived on scene, authorities said the crew members transported the snorkeler to Bud and Ruth's Marina where emergency medical personnel awaited for further care.
