Motorcyclist killed after being struck by Mazda Protege over weekend

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ The Florida Highway Patrol has released video that shows a fatal hit-and-run crash on the Palmetto Expressway in Miami-Dade County.

The crash was reported just after 4:30 a.m. Saturday in the eastbound lanes of the Palmetto Expressway approaching the Interstate 95 exit.

According to an incident report, a 2000 Mazda Protege struck the motorcycle in the middle lane. The video shows the car striking the motorcycle from behind.

The impact of the crash caused the motorcycle to slide on its right side. The rider, identified as German Albelda Martinez, 28, was thrown from the bike, coming to a rest in the right shoulder of the expressway.

The driver of the Mazda swerved into the grass shoulder after the crash and fled the scene.

Troopers said the Mazda is possibly green.
