Video shows man stealing car from Kendall car wash

Theft happened April 6

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating a car theft that was captured on surveillance cameras at a car wash in Kendall.

The incident happened about 10 a.m. April 6 at 2701 SW 137th Ave.

Police say the woman was waiting for her Volkswagen Bug to be cleaned when a man grabbed the key from an attendant and drove off in her car.

"The attendant was like, 'Hey what's up. I'm not done yet.' Obviously there's no audio with the video, so we don't know exactly what he said -- what the dialogue was, but you can at least see that he made an effort to try to stop him. He tried to open the car door and the subject just preceded to back out and take off with the victim's vehicle," Det. Romelio Martinez of the Miami-Dade Police Department said.

Police said the car has since been recovered but they are still looking for the man involved.

Anyone with information about this car theft is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
