FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was named the new Democratic National Committee chairwoman Wednesday.
The congresswoman from Weston was voted in unanimously Wednesday.
Wasserman Schultz, who is the first female DNC chair elected in 15 years, said she feels honored and humbled to be chosen by President Barack Obama.
As chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, Wasserman Schultz will speak for the party, raise money for candidates and hand out that money to candidates she likes. She will be the one you see on TV and quoted in the papers when there?s a political issue in the news.
Wasserman Schultz is a breast cancer survivor and the first Jewish congresswoman ever elected from Florida.
She has served in the U.S. House of Representatives for the last seven years.
