Snorkelers rescued after becoming separated off Haulover Beach

HAULOVER BEACH, Fla. – Two snorkelers said they thought they were going to die after they got separated from their boat off Haulover Beach.

The men, one of whom was visiting from Australia, told Local 10 News they were on their way back from fishing when they decided to go snorkeling in the clear water.

They said they were only in the water for about 30 seconds when their boat, which wasn't anchored, started to drift away in the current. They then became separated and thought the other had drowned.

Both men said they were swimming to the point of exhaustion when they were rescued.

Sky 10 was overhead as Bay Harbor Islands police lifted one of the men into their boat and brought him to shore.
