Weston doctor arrested on domestic violence charges

Deputies: Dr. Rafael Azulay beat live-in girlfriend, held her against will inside home

WESTON, Fla. – A doctor from Weston was arrested on domestic violence charges after police said he beat his live-in girlfriend and held her against her will at their home.

According to the arrest report, the victim's mother called 911 on Aug. 31 to say that her daughter called her claiming to be "in trouble" and said she was being held against her will.

When deputies arrived at Dr. Rafael Azulay's home at  3204 Islewood Ave., they found both Azulay and his girlfriend sitting on their back patio.

Deputies said the woman had visible physical injuries to her face and bruising on her neck, arms, back and legs.

After separating the victim from Azulay, deputies said she confirmed that he had hit her but said she suffered her injuries from an accident that occurred two to three weeks prior.

The arrest report states the victim suffered an orbital fracture to the left side of her face, a small laceration under her right eye, and bruising on her neck, arms, back, thighs and legs. Deputies said the bruising on her neck appeared to be from strangulation.

Azulay is also accused of locking his girlfriend inside the home, not allowing her to leave without him, forcing her to change her cellphone number and not allowing her to speak with anyone except her mother on an occasional basis.

Azulay was taken to the Broward County main jail. He is facing multiple charges including felony battery resulting in great bodily harm and kidnapping/false imprisonment.
