Cody Cohen, 13, appeared distracted when crossing road, witnesses say

WESTON, Fla. – A 13-year-old boy has died after he was struck by a car Sunday afternoon while trying to cross a busy road in Weston.

Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Gina Carter said Cody Cohen and two other children were walking on Indian Trace Road, heading south across Saddle Club Road.

Carter said the kids were crossing against the light when Cohen was struck by a Nissan Altima, driven by Solcireet Sahie Santiso-Lopez, 35.

Carter said Santiso-Lopez attempted to stop but was unable to do so. She stayed at the scene and cooperated with detectives.

Multiple witnesses told deputies that the children appeared distracted and may not have realized that westbound traffic was approaching.

Cohen was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died on Tuesday.

No charges have been filed against the driver.
