Paul Louis is in critical condition after he was struck by a minivan in Miami

MIAMI – Police are looking for the driver who struck a pedestrian and then drove away.

Police say Paul Louis suffered critical injuries Wednesday night when he was hit by a white minivan as he was crossing NE 14th Avenue near 145th Street.  Louis' wife, Mary Nicole, says he had just walked up to the store to check his lottery numbers and was returning home, when his luck ran out.

"When I opened the door, I see the van running," Louis' wife said.

According to police, the driver of the minivan just kept going. Witnesses stopped to help Louis, who suffered multiple injuries. He underwent surgery at Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

His wife says Louis suffers from Alzeheimer's disease. She says he's well known in the neighborhood as a good man, and she's praying he'll survive.

"Oh, I feel terrible, because my husband is a good man," said Louis' wife. "I've been with him for 30 years, since I was 27. Everybody loves him."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police.
