Witnesses pray with gunshot victim

Man gunned down at Dania Beach apartment complex

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Residents gathered around a man and prayed Sunday after he was gunned down at a Dania Beach apartment complex.

Residents at the complex along the 300 block of Sheridan Street said they heard four gunshots Sunday. Some said they then witnessed a man running toward the complex's access gate while tucking a handgun into his pants.

"I've just never heard something like that," said witness Sara Jaouad.

Jaouad said she found the man shot multiple times and feared he had died.

While others rushed to get towels to treat at least two of the wounds to the man's chest and abdomen, she said she decided to pray.

"I just kneeled there, just praying loud and he opened his eyes," Jaouad said.

Officials said the victim was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital alive.

Late Sunday afternoon a tow truck removed a van neighbors said belonged to the victim.

A motive for the shooting is still unclear.
