Woman critical after Florida's Turnpike shooting

Tonika Clark shot once in shoulder, once in back

TAMARAC, Fla. – A woman remains in critical condition after she was shot late Saturday while riding in a SUV on the Florida's Turnpike, said family members of 31-year-old Tonika Clark.

The shooting happened north of the Cypress Creek Toll Plaza. An exchange between those in Clark's vehicle and another car led up to the shooting, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

When the vehicles were side by side, a gunman shot at the Dodge Journey that Clark was riding in, hitting her once in the shoulder and once in the back. Her family said she may undergo surgery to remove the bullets.

Because the driver paid the toll, a surveillance photo of the gunman's vehicle only shows the front of the car, believed to be a black Infiniti sedan. The photo hasn't been released yet.

Clark has two children, said family members.
