Woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease sought

Miriam Pichardo, 57, last seen at Homestead home

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Police are searching for a missing 57-year-old Homestead woman who suffers from Alzheimer's disease.

Homestead police said Miriam Pichardo wandered away from the Royal Palm Gardens Apartments off East Mowry Drive and Northeast 12th Avenue on Saturday morning.

She was last seen wearing a white nightgown with green vertical stripes.

Family members told Local 10 News they are concerned for Pichardo's safety as she will be badly in need of her medication. Her son said she hasn't taken her medicine since Thursday or Friday.

"She could be a different person by now," Carlos Pichardo said.

Miriam Pichardo's daughter said her mother went to take out the garbage and became disoriented.

Detective Fernando Morales said police are also focusing their search in Monroe County.

"She used to work in Monroe County, and as you might know, with Alzheimer's people usually go back to the areas that they know," Morales said.

Anyone with any information on Pichardo's whereabouts is asked to contact the Homestead Police Department at 305-247-1535.
