Factual proffer shows Regis Walker got idea after watching Netflix movie

Regis Walker is accused of swallowing 54 cocaine pellets laced with honey, an idea she got from watching "The Mule," court documents show.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – A South Florida woman has pleaded guilty to smuggling cocaine into the U.S., claiming she used honey to help swallow the drugs after learning it from watching a movie on Netflix.

Regis Walker, 29, of Pembroke Pines, and her attorney signed the factual proffer Monday. The federal court document was obtained by Local 10 News on Tuesday.

The proffer means that the facts contained within "would be proven at trial."

Walker arrived at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on a flight from Montego Bay, Jamaica, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents conducted a baggage search. She told agents that she traveled to Jamaica for four days to visit her husband.

Agents, who suspected that she was "carrying narcotics within her body," had Walker sign a consent form agreeing to undergo an X-ray at Broward Health Medical Center.

"The X-ray revealed that Walker appeared to be carrying pellets within her body," the proffer said.

Walker confessed to swallowing the cocaine-filled pellets in Jamaica, using honey to help her swallow them. She said she got the idea by watching "The Mule."

Walker spent five days in the hospital as she waited to pass the pellets, which contained about 640 grams of cocaine. She admitted to agents that, in March, she was offered $4,000 to swallow drugs but refused to do it.

She faces a maximum 20 years in prison but will likely get less.
