Women and girls from South Florida gathered Thursday at the Miami Beach Convention Center for the challah bakeoff.

The bakeoff is part of the Shabbos Project, a worldwide movement for people to connect with each other and to celebrate Jewish culture.

Challah bread is an important part of weekly Shabbat (sabbath) tradition.

According to the Shabbos Project's website, "At the forefront of the project is the idea of Jewish unity. Our aim with the Shabbos Project is to create a grassroots movement of people with Shabbos at its core; a movement that unites Jews all over the world through one common achievable goal."
