Would-be robber shot, killed in Taco Bell parking lot

Ronald Farmer pulls out gun, shoots suspect Rontavis Holton, BSO says

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A would-be robber was shot and killed Tuesday by a man in the parking lot of a Taco Bell in Pompano Beach, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Ronald Farmer, 37, of Miami Gardens, was standing by his car in the parking lot of the Taco Bell on Atlantic Boulevard when an armed man wearing a ski mask and sunglasses approached him, BSO spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said.

The gunman said he was robbing Farmer and instructed him to drop his pants.

Farmer began to comply, but he somehow diverted the gunman's attention, reached for his own gun and shot the suspect, Concepcion said.

The gunman, later identified as Rontavis Holton, 21, was taken to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead.

Farmer ran inside the Taco Bell for help and remained at the scene for deputies.
