Cat survives building fire after jumping off third floor

During apartment fire, cat jumps off third floor

ORLANDO, Fla – Do cats really have nine lives? A cat in Orlando survived a jump to escape a "massive" apartment fire in a neighborhood near Walt Disney World Tuesday afternoon. 

Osceola firefighters reportedly used an oxygen mask to help the cat after jumping off the third floor and running a few steps.

Charlie Jasper told a Local 10 News partner that his cat had "burned paws" and "some scratches" but no serious visible injuries.

Osceola fire officials determined a lightning strike sparked the fire that destroyed the top of the building and displaced about two dozen families.  Lt. Danny McAvoy told the Orlando Sentinel the fire was "massive."
