LONDON – An Olympic medal is coming home to the Magic City as Miami gymnast Danell Leyva won bronze in the men's all-around competition.
Born in Cuba but raised in the United States, Leyva put up incredible scores on the parallel bars and horizontal bars to rally late for a third place finish.

Leyva finished first overall on the horizontal bar and tied for first on the parallel bars.
The 20-year-old who trains in Southwest Miami-Dade is making his Olympic debut in London.
Kohei Uchimura of Japan took gold while Germany's Marcel Nguyen won silver.
Leyva's teammate on the U.S. team, John Orozco, finished 8th overall.
Leyva's aunt, Mercedes LaPorta, expressed joy about his big win.
LaPorta said, "So proud of Danell. It's incredible what he accomplished today is just an incredible, incredible feeling for all of us, the whole family. I have goose bumps. The whole family, I'm on cloud nine."
Miami-Dade County Chairman Joe Martinez issued the following statement about Leyva's medal: "As the Chairman of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, I would like to recognize and congratulate the outstanding accomplishment of Cuban-American Danell Leyva in winning the 2012 all-around Bronze Medal at the Olympic Men's Gymnastics. I applaud the dedication and commitment of Danell that has lead him to this astounding achievement. After migrating from his native country at just one year of age, his example is a true American success story and we are proud to have him as a member of our community in Miami-Dade County."
