Davie boxer wins national championship

Teofimo Lopez wins National Silver Gloves Championship

DAVIE, Fla. – One of the Davie Police Athletic League's boxers won a National Silver Gloves Championship.

Teofimo Lopez, 15, won the National Silver Gloves Championship for the 125-pound weight class in Independence, Mo., said Ofc. Tim Albury, director of the Davie Police Athletic League. Lopez is a ninth grader at Western High School.

Lopez, David Rodriguez, 15, and Eric Tudor, 11, all competed. The trio are Florida Silver Gloves Champions and Regional Silver Gloves Champions.

Tudor won his first fight but lost in the semi-finals.

Rodriguez was defeated in a hard fought match against a fighter from New Jersey.

Both Teofimo and Rodriguez will be moving up to the Junior Olympics level. Tudor will continue his quest at the Silver Gloves level.
