Heat rookie snubbed from All-Star weekend
Norris Cole not invited to Rising Stars Challenge
Heat point guard Norris Cole is 6th among NBA rookies in scoring this season, but that wasn't enough to land him a spot in the NBA Rising Stars game on All-Star weekend.
The league announced the players for the game on Wednesday, and Cole failed to make the cut. The abundance of young talent at the guard position likely played a role in Cole missing out.
Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio has been a spark for Minnesota, while Pistons guard Brandon Knight (from Pinecrest High) is averaging almost 13 points per game.
Cole is averaging just 8 points a game, but he's only playing an average of 20 minutes per game for a veteran Heat team. Like Rubio, he's provided a spark for his team, but unlike Rubio, he's not getting significant minutes.
NBA assistant coaches voted on the 9 rookies to make the squad. The Rising Stars game will be played on February 16th in Orlando as part of the league's All-Star weekend.
