Marlins to meet with free agent Cespedes
26-year-old defected from Cuba in summer of 2011
The Miami Marlins plan to meet with Cuban free agent Yoenis Cespedes on Wednesday to discuss a contract.
Marlins president David Samson told ESPN.com that the club could make Cespedes an offer by the end of the day.
Cespedes is in Miami on a visitor's visa to negotiate with teams, but will be unable to officially sign until the U.S. Treasury's Department of Foreign Assets Control unblock him.
The 26-year-old outfielder defected from Cuba in the summer of 2011 to the Dominican Republic to seek free agency in Major League Baseball.
Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus called Cespedes "arguably the best all-around player to come out of Cuba in a generation."
