Some Miami Dolphins fans were unhappy they were stuck in traffic as the team used a police escort to get from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to their training facility in Davie.
"Absolutely not. Why should they get an escort? I don't understand it. They are coming home. Is there a game tonight?" said Gary Blanchard.
But not everyone agrees.
"Yes, absolutely! Why? Because there are so many crazy fans out there you just never know what could happen," said Ryan Nolte.
The Dolphins returned late after losing their preseason finale in Dallas on Wednesday because their plane clipped another one while at the airport.
The law enforcement agency providing the escort determines whether the reasoning for the escort is valid. Examples include a funeral or for security concerns.
Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said the Dolphins were given a police escort because the team has a large number of high-profile people in transit. It costs $37 an hour per officer for the escort and the Dolphins pay the bill.
The buses don't have any team logos and look like ordinary tour buses.
But despite police concerns, many drivers still weren't happy to be stuck waiting for the Fins.
"Can't believe they get an escort," said Pete Trapani. "Was that for protection? 'That's what they say.' (laughs) From what? Who is going after them? Who are they harming? They aren't harming the other team."
"Some of those guys may have stalkers. Some of those coaches may have people very mad at them. It is important for them to get home safe," said Leon Sullivan.
"There could have been an individual there with a wife who was pregnant and needed to get to the hospital," said Larry Shoemaker.
"I don't understand it. Do they need an escort to go to the post office? Do they need an escort to go grocery shopping? This world is crazy. This world is just plain crazy. I don't get it," said Trapani.
