Miettinen & Byfuglien the latest Winnipeg Jets in sick bay
The Winnipeg Jets list of walking wounded has grown by a couple of members. Right-winger Antti Miettinen saw his comeback stopped after one brief shift, while defenceman Dustin Byfuglien went into the boards awkwardly during the third period and was unable to finish the game. Jets head coach Claude Noel said after the 4-2 win over the New Jersey Devils that Byfuglien was day-to-day. “It’s nothing to do with the one previous to this,” said Noel. “It’s just a new thing.” Miettinen’s rotten luck continued as he replaced Kyle Wellwood and suited up for his first game of the season. After a faceoff in the defensive zone, Miettinen (also listed as day-to-day) took a shot by Ilya Kovalchuk in an “uncomfortable area” — ending his day 17 seconds in. “It was the shortest shift in a comeback ever,” said Noel. “It’s tough because the guy has battled to get in the lineup and then down he goes again.”
