Running back Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings was named the AP 2012 NFL Most Valuable Player. The award was announced Saturday night at "NFL Honors."

Peterson's highly successful season following major knee surgery has earned him The Associated Press 2012 NFL Most Valuable Player Award, beating out Peyton Manning for the honor. Manning's return from four neck surgeries netted him Comeback Player of the Year, reports ESPN.

In addition to MVP, Peterson also took home Offensive Player of the Year on Saturday.

Peterson finished with 2,097 yards, a mere 9 yards short of breaking Eric Dickerson's rushing record.
