Search begins for new Marlins manager
Reports surface that former Marlins catcher could replace Ozzie Guillen
Reports of rumors about who could potentially become the Miami Marlins’ manager are popping up across South Florida. On Tuesday, the team’s president announced Ozzie Guillen had been fired after just one season and that the search for his replacement would begin immediately.
There are reports that former Marlins catcher Mike Redmond could be on the list of potential new managers. He was a member of the team from 1998-2004 and won a World Championship ring with the team in 2003. Last season, he was the manager of a Toronto Blue Jays’ Florida State League affiliate.
Whoever takes over will face the massive challenge when the team takes the field for their second season in Marlins Park in 2013. Under Guillen’s management, the Marlins finished their season with a 69-93 record.
The Marlins will have to continue to pay the former manager through the end of his four-year, $7 million contract.
