ZEBULON, N.C. -

Edwin Rodriguez climbed the managing ladder all the way to the major leagues. Now the former Florida Marlins skipper has settled into a new home — back in the minors.

A handful of ex-big league managers have resurfaced this season in the minor leagues. Rodriguez, now managing the Single-A Carolina Mudcats, still loves the challenge of developing the next crop of Cleveland Indians.

He says developing players is "one thing that you just don't stop doing" and it makes his new job rewarding.

The San Diego Padres have ex-Toronto manager John Gibbons leading their Double-A team in San Antonio, and general manager Josh Byrnes says his team "is lucky to have him." Also, former Nationals manager Jim Riggleman is with the Reds' Double-A team in Pensacola.
