UM beats North Carolina 5-3 in ACC tourney
Hurricanes snap Tarheels' 14-game winning streak
Dale Carey hit a two-run home run and Miami snapped North Carolina's 14-game winning streak by taking a 5-3 victory at the Atlantic Coast Conference baseball tournament.
Carey's drive to left in the seventh inning on Thursday scored Stephen Perez, broke a 3-all tie and gave the sixth-seeded Hurricanes (35-20) a valuable first victory at the four-day tournament. Both Miami and second-seeded North Carolina (43-14) are 1-1 in Pool B play.
The Tar Heels loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth before closer A.J. Salcines struck out Colin Moran to end it.
Brad Fieger had an RBI double and Chantz Mack added a run-scoring groundout for Miami.
North Carolina's Grayson Atwood had a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the seventh to tie it.
