Clay's Plays: Breakdown of Dolphins-Lions

Ouch. That one hurt. A lot.

I could try and sugar-coat it by telling you the Lions are one of the best teams in the NFC (they are) and that they could even go to the Super Bowl (they could), but that means absolutely nothing right now. Again, the Dolphins held a late lead against a tough opponent. And again, they let it slip away. Onto the plays!

3. Charles Clay dropped touchdown pass late in the 4th.

It's such a clichƩ', but it's true -- NFL games come down to one-two plays here and there. The teams that make them usually win. The teams that don't usually lose. This is simply a ball that has to be caught. A touchdown there changes the entire complexion of the final drive.

2. Matthew Stafford TD pass to Theo Riddick

The Lions made the play that the Dolphins couldn't. Theo Riddick's diving TD catch was that "one play" that the Lions needed. If he lets it slip, we may be talking about OT. But he didn't.

1. Branden Albert injury

Just awful. Right now we still don't know the extent of the prized tackle's injury, but it doesn't look good. Albert has been the keystone of the Fins' revamped offensive line and this is a huge blow. The OL stepped up in his absence on Sunday, but it's hard to imagine this OL being as effective long-term without him.
