CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Mother nature put a damper on the pivotal series between the University of Miami and Florida State Seminoles as Sunday's rubber match was canceled because of heavy rains and lightning in Coral Gables.
The rivals split the shortened, two-game series that featured dramatic catches and home runs, including a grand slam Saturday by Michael Burns that helped the Hurricanes win Saturday's showdown in extra innings. It was UM's first extra-inning win of the season.

Miami (19-20, 10-10 Atlantic Coast Conference) is fighting to keep its 44-year postseason streak alive. The Hurricanes haven't missed the NCAA tournament since 1972.
The game was called off with the Seminoles leading 2-0 in the third inning because of lightning in the area.
"Once the lighting alarm goes off, you're not allowed to be on the field," Miami head coach Jim Morris said. "The umpires are in charge. We had our players in our rubber cleats, the non-starters, all day today to go out and cover the field. He wouldn't let them go out. Then he stopped Florida State from going out, too."
The 'Canes next play Florida International on consecutive nights starting Tuesday on the road and then Wednesday night at home at Mark Light Field.
