TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Xavier Rathan-Mayes is following in the footsteps of his Florida State teammate and leaving school to enter the NBA draft.
The junior guard announced his decision Thursday on Twitter, one day after fellow guard Dwayne Bacon said he would forego his final two seasons of eligibility.
Rathan-Mayes thanked Florida State for allowing him to achieve his academic and athletic goals. He said coming to Florida State to play basketball at his father's alma mater is "a dream come true." His father is former NBA player Tharon Mayes.
"I feel that now is the time for me to continue setting goals for myself at the next level," Rathan-Mayes said. "I'm excited to take this next step to pursue a career in the NBA."
Rathan-Mayes helped the Seminoles (26-9) reach the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2012. He averaged 10.6 points, 4.8 assists and 3.2 rebounds in his final season.
Like Bacon, Rathan-Mayes declared at the end of last season, but they didn't hire agents and decided to stay in school.
Jonathan Isaac could be the next player to announce his intentions. The freshman star is projected to be a top-10 draft pick.
