Florida State, Miami picked to finish second in ACC divisions

Seminoles receive second-most votes behind Clemson to win ACC in 2016

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. ā€“ Florida State and Miami have been picked to finish second in their respective divisions in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season.

The Seminoles were picked to finish behind Clemson in the ACC Atlantic Division, and the Hurricanes were picked to finish behind North Carolina in the Coastal Division, according to a poll of the 191 media members in attendance at last week's ACC Kickoff event in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Miami received 50 first-place votes to represent the Coastal Division, while Florida State received 42 first-place votes to represent the Atlantic Division.

There was more parity in the Coastal Division, with four other schools receiving first-place votes: Pittsburgh (14), Virginia Tech (three), Duke (two) and Georgia Tech (one).

Louisville received one first-place vote in the Atlantic Division.

Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson led the preseason ACC player of the year balloting with 164 votes. Watson was the 2015 ACC player of the year and finished third in Heisman Trophy balloting last year.

Florida State running back Dalvin Cook was next in line with 18 votes for preseason ACC player of the year, while Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya received two votes.

Clemson and North Carolina represented the ACC in last year's conference title game.

The Tigers were chosen by 144 media members to win the ACC championship. Florida State received 39 votes to win the overall title, while North Carolina received seven and Louisville received one.
