Steve Spurrier gets shirtless in Dr. Pepper commercial

Former Gators coach appears in new football-themed commercials for Dr. Pepper

Former Florida Gators coach Steve Spurrier shares a shirtless moment with Larry Culpepper in a new Dr. Pepper commercial.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Former Florida Gators football coach Steve Spurrier seems to have a lot more time on his hands now that he's retired.

For example, the "ol' ball coach" is now appearing in two new Dr. Pepper commercials promoting the College Football Playoff.

The most recent features the face of Dr. Pepper, Larry Culpepper (played by actor James M. Connor), paying a visit to Spurrier's home.

"Larry, come on," Spurrier tells him. "We got a lot of football to watch."

What follows is a brief montage over the music of the 1986 Huey Lewis and the News song "Stuck with You." It features Spurrier -- sporting a visor that says "ball coach" -- wearing a headset while watching football with Larry; Spurrier showing off a closet filled with Spurrier's signature visors; Spurrier instructing Larry in the proper technique of visor-tossing; Spurrier losing to Larry in electronic football; and a shirtless Spurrier and Larry sipping on Dr. Pepper in ice-filled tubs.

"Maybe next Saturday we ought to do this again, what do you think?" Spurrier asks Larry.

Another commercial features Spurrier dressed as Larry for Halloween.

"Hi, Larry," Spurrier tells him. "How do you like my costume?"

Spurrier coached the Florida Gators from 1990-2001, winning six Southeastern Conference championships and a national title in 1996. He left his alma mater for the NFL's Washington Redskins in 2002 but returned to college in 2005 as coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks, leading them to 11-win seasons from 2011-13. He resigned after a 2-4 start last season and returned to Florida in July to serve as an ambassador and consultant for the school.
