Appalachian State student accuses Hurricanes of assaulting color guard

Sophie Randleman says several players taunted, touched color guard before game

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – An Appalachian State student said several Miami football players physically and verbally assaulted members of the school's color guard as the Hurricanes ran onto the field before Saturday's game.

Color guard member Sophie Randleman said in a Facebook post that one of her fellow students was "shoved by several very large, intentionally aggressive football players." She said the color guard member "had severe pain and had to sit for most of the game."

Randleman said she later learned that "several other members were groped, sworn at, taunted and touched in ways that were definitely not asked for."

The interior design student said she "will not tolerate events like this occurring."

"This is 2016, and I will not tolerate excessive catcalling, harassment and violence towards others, especially without due cause," Randleman said.

Miami Hurricanes athletic director Blake James said he is following up with the football staffs from both schools.

"The University of Miami does not tolerate any kind of suggestive behavior, harassment or inappropriate conduct and we will take action if our students did engage in this type of behavior," James told the Palm Beach Post.

Randleman's post came hours after Miami defeated Appalachian State 45-10.

"I was told repeatedly (Saturday) that Miami's team is notoriously scum, but that is no reason to sit back and let this happen," Randleman said.

No. 15 Miami has the weekend off before traveling to Georgia Tech on Oct. 1.
